Solar generated 5.5% of U.S. electricity in 2023, a 17.5% increase

Solar generation grew by 17.5% compared to 2022, albeit at a lower rate, adding just over 33 TWh of generation compared to the 40 TWh added in 2022.

Utility-scale solar had a record year in 2023. It’s set to double in 2024

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) projects nearly 63 GW of utility-scale electric capacity additions, most of which are solar and batteries.

South Dakota solar up 3600% in 2023, doubling again in 2024

South Dakota had a solar energy surge with the activation of its first utility-scale facility, an 80 MWac project. The state anticipates a doubling in capacity by 2024, with the addition of a second 128 MWac utility-scale solar facility.

Sunrise brief: Solid state battery charges in minutes, lasts for thousands of cycles

Also on the rise: Solar season slows, wind power rises. SolarApp+ speeds solar permitting for more than 160 communities. And more.

Solar season slows, wind power rises

From January through October 2023, solar photovoltaics contributed 5.78% to U.S. electricity, with just over 6% coming from the source in October alone.

Sunrise brief: Expect lower demand for residential solar
