EDF Renewables North America signs on with Solarcycle to recycle damaged or broken solar panels.
Solar panel waste will not be a problem because there is so little of it. However, there is a short-term problem in some places because panel deployment is growing fast and recycling is playing catch up.
During an electrifying visit to Las Vegas, pv magazine USA not only enjoyed a party in an ice bar and another in a Ferris Wheel above the city, but also attended SEIA’s “Women in Solar” event and shook hands with numerous manufacturers of solar goods.
A research group at Arizona State has developed a process to recover lead in its metallic form so that it can be reused in the PV industry. The process relies on a leaching solution based on a combination of acetic acid (CH3COOH) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), which the researchers said leaches the lead ‘in a matter of minutes.’
With reduced use and improved recovery of critical materials, PV system deployment will become less dependent on supply chain limitations and can sustain the expected growth in clean energy.
Also on the rise: Solar power crosses the political aisle–$75 million for agrivoltaics research. Orsted to recycle all the solar modules in its U.S. portfolio. And more.
Also on the rise: Nickel-zinc battery systems paired with hydrogen, EV charging. Solar modules removed from California Target facility meet sustainable end of life. And more.
The AES Corporation signed an agreement to send damaged or retired panels to a Texas Solarcycle recycling center.
The funds, consisting of both company equity and infrastructure financing, will be used to scale Solarcycle’s solar panel recycling capacity and expand materials remanufacturing capabilities. Solarcycle also announced $1.5 million in new funding from the DOE.
Joining forces strengthens the team’s mission to foster a holistic approach to end-of-life solar solutions.
