A bill aims to re-establish the state’s former highly effective solar incentive program, which ran from 2017 to late 2018 and led to the installation of nearly 7,500 residential energy systems, 380 commercial energy systems, and more than 100 MW of solar capacity.

All three installations are part of the utility’s plan to add 1,089 MW of solar in the state by the end of 2023.

The 150 MW Brenneman Solar Project is being developed in Macon County, Georgia and brings Doral Renewables’ development pipeline to more than 5 GW.

While federal policy action (or inaction) grabs all the headlines, let’s look back at some of the most impactful state and local developments from 2021.

Owned jointly with Hannon Armstrong, the portfolio is comprised of 13 renewable projects, including 1.8 GW of onshore wind and 0.5 GW of utility-scale solar.

The Black Bear Solar project will be among the largest in the state once it is completed, and it will deliver electricity to a wholesale power provider for 11 public power utilities in Alabama.

The Saddlebrook Solar + Storage Project will be a 102.5 MW installation, paired with 6.5 MW/52 MWh of Lockheed Martin’s GridStar Flow battery technology, and will be the largest flow battery energy storage facility in Alberta.

The three projects add 287 MW of solar energy to the Peach State, and bring the capacity of projects supporting Meta’s (Facebook) operations to 435 MW.

The solar installations are planned to be located on Weyerhaeuser property in the southeastern United States.

The 80 MW Elektron Solar project is set to provide electricity to three municipal governments, one university, and two ski resorts when it reaches operation in 2023.
