This morning Canadian Solar announced that its subsidiary Recurrent Energy has achieved commercial operation of the 100 MW-AC (134 MW-DC) Mustang Solar project in California’s Central Valley. 100 MW is large project, at a time when many developers have moved to smaller utility-scale projects.
Blattner Energy provided engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for the project, which utilizes single-axis tracking technology. The project created 450 “peak” construction jobs, and Recurrent emphasized hiring local workers.
Mustang holds a power contract to sell electricity to Sonoma Clean Power and MCE. The project was also supported by a tax equity investment from U.S. Bancorp Community Development Corporation.
In a press statement on the company’s website, Canadian Solar Chairman and CEO Dr. Shawn Qu predicted that Recurrent will complete more than 1 GW of PV projects in the United States over the course of 2016, in what he calls a “historic” year.
The completion of the project follows on strong Q2 results reported last week by Canadian Solar, in which it reported that nearly half of the modules which it sold during the quarter went to the Americas.
