Electric utility ComEd and its parent company Exelon spoke in a keynote session at the Midwest Solar Expo about why, as utilities, they want growth in the community solar and rooftop solar markets.
The utility solar project is slated to reach commercial operations by fall of 2024, and when operational will be owned by the developer, Swift Current Energy.
By the the end of 2023 Commonwealth Edison expects to double its current cumulative installation to more than 150 community solar projects installed, serving more than 36,000 customers across its more than 11,400 square mile service territory in northern Illinois.
Initial demonstration projects are focused on select customers that have experienced outages in recent years.
