WeaveGrid has been honored with the Association of Energy Services Professionals (AESP) 2025 Energy Award for Innovation in Technology for its groundbreaking Distribution-Integrated Smart Charging Orchestration (DISCO) solution. The award was presented today at the AESP National Conference in Phoenix, Arizona.
WeaveGrid’s DISCO technology addresses one of the most pressing challenges in the electric vehicle (EV) transition: protecting distribution infrastructure that wasn’t originally designed to handle widespread EV charging. As EV adoption accelerates, with over 50% of new car sales projected to be electric by 2030, utilities face the potential for significant strain on their distribution systems.

DISCO optimizes EV charging at the distribution level, demonstrating up to 45% reduction in peak load for large vehicle groups and capturing approximately 1.5kW of peak load reduction per enrolled device. The patented software solution groups vehicles at any level—transformer, feeder, or substation—and creates optimized charging schedules based on individual EV needs and asset load balancing.
The technology is currently deployed with major utilities including Pacific Gas & Electric, Portland General Electric, Salt River Project, and Exelon utilities, proving its effectiveness in real-world applications.
Recent studies estimate that without managed charging solutions like DISCO, utilities could face billions in grid upgrade costs. However, the California Public Advocates Office Distribution Grid Electrification Model 2.0 (October 2024) estimated $9.4 billion in distribution system upgrade cost savings from EV managed charging strategies like DISCO.
The AESP Energy Award for Innovation in Technology recognizes technological advancements that demonstrate innovation, market disruption, and measurable results in the energy services field.
