Orange Park, Florida, August 27th, 2024 — The Way Free Medical Clinic, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free medical services to over 50,000 uninsured and low-income residents of Clay County, proudly announced its partnership with Everybody Solar to launch an innovative solar energy project.
The Way Free Medical Clinic offers comprehensive medical services, including primary care, preventive healthcare, and chronic disease management. The clinic is staffed by volunteer healthcare professionals and funded through donations and community support, playing a crucial role in improving the health and well-being of the community.
Working with Everybody Solar, the newly planned 37.40-kilowatt solar array will be installed at the clinic’s new headquarters facility in Orange Park. This solar array is expected to generate 56,400-kilowatt hours of electricity annually, preventing 86,863 pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere.
The anticipated savings from this project will allow the clinic to reallocate funds towards expanding and enhancing its services, including free primary and specialty medical care, obstetrics and prenatal care, diabetes, and heart and respiratory care.
“The solar energy project provides an element of financial sustainability to our organization, as we have to raise 100% of the funds needed to operate,” says Don Fann, executive director of The Way Free Medical Clinic. “This project will be a component of an innovative array of elements at the new site, including a demonstration edible garden and pandemic-ready facility features.”
In support of this initiative, Everybody Solar emphasized the importance of solar energy for nonprofits. “In my experience working with healthcare initiatives, I’ve seen firsthand the critical impact that access to medical services can have on underserved communities,” said Myriam Scally, Executive Director of Everybody Solar. “Partnering with The Way Free Medical Clinic to bring solar energy to their new facility resonates deeply with me. The new headquarters will more than double the number of people served. It will also introduce dental care, coordinate care with local hospitals, improve obstetric care, and continue developing its cancer care program. The Way Free Medical Clinic’s commitment to sustainability sets a benchmark in healthcare, ensuring that essential services are provided efficiently and responsibly to the community. The project was made possible by the generous contributions of our donors and the donation of solar modules from local manufacturer Jinko Solar.
