SunPower Solar Energy Academy Builds Youth Innovators

Share

To help today’s youth prepare for and work in a world increasingly powered by solar energy, SunPower (NASDAQ:SPWR), a global solar technology and energy services company, is offering the SunPower® Solar Energy Academy, a five-day, immersive, learning experience for California high school students. More than 500 students are expected to participate this summer. In total, over 1,500 students and 150 teachers have participated since the summer academy was launched in 2012.

Applying science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines, students collaborate on teams as a solar start-up company designing a residential system. Through hands-on activities, field visits and lectures from solar professionals, students learn about project scope, design, finance and environmental economics leading the industry. The academy culminates in team presentations to school officials, community members and solar professionals. By week’s end, students will have acquired work-ready skills and be prepared to speak confidently about residential solar projects and renewable energy careers.
