[Buckingham County, VA] – Hodson Energy, a leading solar developer backed by Great Bay Renewables, is pleased to announce the successful permitting of an 80-megawatt (MW) solar project in Buckingham County, Virginia. The project received a positive vote from the Buckingham Board of Supervisors on February 12, 2024, marking a significant milestone in the company’s commitment to advancing clean energy solutions in the region.

The approved solar project, the largest to be permitted in Virginia so far in 2024, is projected to bring substantial economic benefits to Buckingham County, including an estimated $10.9 million in tax revenue over the project’s lifespan. This financial package is inclusive of front-loaded payments that Hodson has urged leaders to deploy locally to the benefit of citizens nearest the project’s footprint.

“We are thrilled to receive approval for our 80MW solar project in Buckingham County, Virginia. Hodson’s Arvonia solar project will help the Utilities in Virginia meet their mandatory Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) requirements and reducing their carbon emissions, under the Virginia Clean Economy Act of 2020.” said RS Gill, CEO of Hodson Energy. “This project represents a significant investment in the local community and underscores our commitment to supporting economic growth while advancing renewable energy goals,” said Kyle West Sr. Development Advisor for Hodson Energy.

The project, located in Arvonia, will contribute to Buckingham County’s renewable energy portfolio and help to bolster Virginia’s clean energy capabilities. In addition to its environmental benefits, the project will create local job opportunities during the construction and ongoing maintenance phases. “We are grateful for the support and collaboration of the Buckingham County Board of Supervisors, Planning Commissioners, and County staff throughout the permitting process,” said Kim Jawanda, Vice President for Community Outreach and Development. “We enjoyed the support of over 170 residents who saw the benefits this project will bring and decided to make their voice heard.” Hodson Energy remains committed to upholding the highest environmental and regulatory standards while delivering sustainable energy solutions to communities across Virginia.
