Thunderbird Products has partnered with local contractor, Sullivan Solar Power, on the completion of a brand new 74.43 kW-AC solar photovoltaic system at its El Cajon facility. The Thunderbird Products installation is Sullivan Solar Power’s largest project in the El Cajon region, helping make El Cajon a leader in the adoption of clean and sustainable solar power. With the completion of this project, Sullivan Solar Power has now installed more than 1.5 MW of solar power in the region.

“Considering the energy intensive nature of our business, going solar was a no-brainer for us at Thunderbird Products,” said David Carnick of Thunderbird Products. “We are excited to benefit from the financial savings, but we also know the decision to go solar means there are benefits for the environment as well.”

The Thunderbirds Products solar installation will generate 25-year financial savings of over $1.4 million. The system will produce over 135,000 kWh each year, meeting the energy needs of the El Cajon business. Thunderbirds Products have been in business for over 35 years, specializing in the manufacturing of high-quality American-made copper products such as drains, vents, and other copper items.

However the benefits are not just financial, the installation will also provide advantages for the local environment and long term sustainability of the region. The system will offset almost 100 tons of carbon dioxide pollution every year. In addition, the solar energy generated on site will mean that the costly import of fossil fuels, equivalent to over 101,200 pounds of coal, is no longer required.

“The Thunderbird Products installation represents why El Cajon is a leader in the solar energy revolution,” said Daniel Sullivan, founder and president of Sullivan Solar Power. “Solar energy is the most effective solution for reducing energy costs in the manufacturing industry and offers the local industry an advantage over its competitors on a national scale.”

The system is comprised of 252 SunPower 327-watt solar panels. These panels are the most advanced product on the market and offer the highest efficiency available. The solar system will be continuously monitored to ensure that it operates to its capacity and delivers the performance guaranteed by Sullivan Solar Power.
