Utility Variable-Generation Integration Group elects Mark Ahlstrom, President

The Board of Directors of Utility Variable-Generation Integration Group, (UVIG), the leading source of global technical expertise for wind and solar power system integration and operation, has elected Mark Ahlstrom as president of the board of the professional association. In his new role, Ahlstrom will oversee the implementation of UVIG’s 2017 strategic growth plan and the development of expanded services and resources for UVIG’s global membership.

“As a recognized leader in wind and solar integration and forecasting, Mark has been very active in UVIG for over 12 years,” said Charlie Smith, UVIG’s executive director. “With a proven track record for strategic vision and successfully leading and driving innovation, Mark is well suited to lead the implementation of UVIG’s growth strategy and development of expanded member resources and services.

“On behalf of the UVIG board and all of our members, we want to thank outgoing president, Ty Bettis, Portland General Electric, for his service and commitment to UVIG,” continued Smith.

Mr. Ahlstrom is Vice President of Renewable Energy Policy for NextEra Energy Resources and WindLogics, NextEra Energy Resource’s analytics and meteorology subsidiary. He is very involved with grid integration and market rules for economic, reliable and sustainable power systems.

An engineering graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Mark is a senior member of IEEE and a member of CIGRE and the American Meteorological Society.
