Solar developer UGE is preparing to begin construction on two new rooftop community solar projects in New York City, which together total 1.9 megawatts.
The larger of the two projects, which totals 1.4MW, will be part of a high-profile new commercial development, more details about which will be released later this year. The smaller is a 509kW project that will be built atop a shopping plaza on Staten Island. Together the two projects will offset roughly 2,500 metric tons of CO2 each year, equivalent to CO2 emissions from about 275,000 gallons of gasoline consumed.
These two new projects will join UGE’s existing portfolio of operating rooftop community solar projects in the greater New York City area. UGE has an additional 833kW of projects in the area already under construction, with plans to start construction on three additional projects in the city by end of year.

Both new projects will join UGE’s Low-to-Moderate Income (LMI) program, meaning that at least 30% of the energy generated by the project will be reserved for LMI households.
