The North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners
(NABCEP) will be hosting a NABCEP Stakeholder Summit during Intersolar North America in San
Francisco, CA.

WHO: Shawn O’Brien, Executive Director of NABCEP, and other subject matter experts (SMEs)
The NABCEP Stakeholder Summit will involve a presentation and an engaging discussion about three
new specialty credentials that are being developed in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Energy
SunShot Initiative.Through the Energy Department’s Solar Training and Education for Professionals
(STEP) program, NABCEP will update its existing PV Installation Professional Certification to ensure it
retains its rigorous quality standards as well as launch three new credential programs. NABCEP’s new
credential programs in Design, Installation, and Commissioning & Maintenance will provide professional
certification for solar maintenance technicians, project managers, system designers, and operations and
management professionals.
“As the premier certification organization in renewable energy, NABCEP endeavors to provide relevant
certifications that meet the evolving needs of companies and solar professionals,” said Shawn W.
O’Brien, Executive Director of NABCEP. “The development of the three new specialties in Design,
Installation, and Commissioning and Maintenance will provide solar workers the opportunity to
demonstrate to the public and employers that they have met the national standard established by the
renewable energy profession.”
With the SunShot Initiative’s support, NABCEP plans to implement its new certification suite and offer
testing services nationally to qualified applicants by the end of 2017.
