The Hawaii Solar Energy Association, Hawaii’s leading voice of the solar industry, announced today that it has appointed Caroline Carl of Hawaii Energy as its new interim board officer, replacing Jon Yoshimura of Tesla.
Ms. Carl was selected from a pool of qualified candidates from HSEA member companies. As a board officer, Ms. Carl will serve as an advisor to the board and HSEA staff and will work closely with the organization to represent the solar industry in Hawaii and brings valuable insight about energy efficiency programs and community education on clean energy.
“It is a tremendous privilege to serve as member of the HSEA board. Those of us in Hawaii’s energy sector fully recognize the important role HSEA plays in advocating for our state’s clean energy future,” said Ms. Carl. “I have big shoes to fill with Senator Yoshimura’s departure, but I look forward to sharing my experience and knowledge in field of energy efficiency and conservation as we work toward reaching our clean energy goals.”
Ms. Carl has served Hawaii’s energy economy in various leadership roles throughout her professional career. She currently serves as Deputy Director of Hawaii Energy and manages the planning and execution of a range of residential and commercial energy efficiency programs. Ms. Carl previously worked with the Kohala Center, implementing energy efficient technology and clean energy savings programs on Big Island. She has been instrumental in advocating for and implementing various energy efficiency programs across the state.
During her time at Hawaii Energy, Ms. Carl has been responsible for overseeing various innovative energy savings programs with a wide range of impacts, from reaching Hawaii’s low income families and non-profit organizations, to overseeing large-scale energy efficiency projects that resulted in savings measured in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. She also works to educate consumers on smart energy habits and create fundamental changes in consumer energy behavioral patterns to realize Hawaii’s renewable energy goals. In addition, Ms. Carl serves as an executive board member for Women in Renewable Energy, a non-profit focused oncreating a “forum for women who are working to bring about a sustainable Hawaii powered by clean energy.”
“Caroline will bring a fresh perspective to our Board of Directors. Her knowledge of local energy issues combined with her experience tackling comprehensive energy challenges made her the ideal addition to the Board,” said Brian Gold, HSEA’s Board President. “We are thrilled to have her.”
Ms. Carl holds a B.A. in Environment and Development from McGill University and a M.S. in Geographic Information science and Technology from the University of Southern California. She will begin her board officer position immediately.
