HD Hyundai Energy Solutions, an affiliate of HD Hyundai’s solar energy division, announced on August 31 that it had acquired RoHS (Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances) certification, which proves its ability to manage hazardous substances necessary for supplying eco-friendly solar modules.

RoHS is a regulation that restricts the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic products, medical devices, and monitoring and control devices produced or imported in Europe, and contains a total of 10 substances, including lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), and mercury (Hg), for each component. It can be obtained only when the content of hazardous substances is less than 0.01% to 0.1%. It has been implemented in the EU since July 2006 for the purpose of reducing risks to the human body and the environment, and is also applied in some states in the United States.

According to a press release last July, major telecommunications companies in the U.S. neglected the lead-coated cables they used in the past, which not only caused environmental pollution and had negative health effects, but also resulted in an astronomical cost of about $59 billion to remove lead cables. Its importance is increasingly being emphasized because it can affect corporate management activities, including legal responsibilities.

In addition to RoHS certification, HD Hyundai Energy Solution acquired KS (Korea Industrial Standard) certification for eco-friendly high durability through the development of technology that reduces the lead content of the total weight of solar modules to less than 0.005% as part of continuous eco-friendly management activities.

According to the GIA (Gemological Institute of America), the United States has more than 24,000 artificial water bodies where FPV is expected to be useful for development, and the FPV market has recently been receiving attention, which is positive for HD Hyundai Energy Solutions’ eco-friendly technological progress. It is expected to have an impact.

An official from HD Hyundai Energy Solutions said, “Reflecting the market demand for corporate eco-friendly activities, we will lead the development of technologies that are safe for the human body and the environment beyond high-output and high-durability products, so that we can establish ourselves as a global company trusted by customers and the market. “I will try my best,” he said.

HD Hyundai Energy Solutions plans to introduce “Lead-free RoHS compliant” certified products through the RE+ exhibition, the largest solar energy exhibition in North America, in September, and will establish itself as a premium brand by establishing an image of eco-friendly products not only in Korea but also in the U.S. market is planned to be strengthened.

In addition, HD Hyundai Energy Solutions was selected as a “Top Performer” by PVEL, a global solar energy verification agency in the U.S., last May, and successfully completed additional testing under conditions 2 to 3 times harsher than the general quality certification conducted by PVEL in August. He said he did.
