Brigham Young University Athletics is going green with a solar power sponsorship from Legend Solar, the fastest-growing solar power company in Utah. The agreement makes Legend Solar the official solar provider of BYU Athletics and includes plans to work with athletics to install an 800-kilowatt solar power system, saving the athletic department millions of dollars in energy costs throughout the life of the project.

“We are excited to work with BYU Athletics in developing a targeted plan for solar power. This will provide energy savings to the athletic department and align well with BYU’s sustainable energy initiatives,” said Shaun Alldredge, co-founder and co-owner of Legend Solar. “We admire BYU’s dedication to developing strong athletic programs and are excited to support the program.”

“The partnership we have been able to form with Legend Solar goes beyond a traditional corporate sponsorship,” said Casey Stauffer, BYU IMG General Manager. “We are excited to work with Legend Solar and look forward to a mutually beneficial long term partnership.”

The proposed 800-kilowatt system on BYU’s campus is equivalent to removing more than 4,300 vehicles from the road for one year, or eliminating the CO2 emissions of more than 22 million pounds of coal burned over the lifetime of the project.

To kick off the sponsorship, BYU honored Legend Solar’s co-founders and co-owners Shaun Alldredge and Shane Perkins with a game jersey presentation at the BYU-UCLA football game on Saturday, Sept. 17, at BYU’s LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah.
