Energy storage has the potential to revolutionize energy markets in Michigan and around the country. As technology advances, integration into the grid is receiving increased attention among utilities, developers, and agencies responsible for regulating the energy industry.
In 2018, the Michigan Senate and House of Representatives directed the Michigan Agency for Energy to hold a “collaborative discussion” to study the potential of integrating energy storage into Michigan’s electric market. The agency has scheduled the free, public, collaborative discussion for 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 25 in Lansing.
The agenda includes:
· An overview of energy storage technology.
· A discussion of the considerations made by utilities and regulatory bodies when considering the incorporation of energy storage into their market models.
· A review of the hurdles to incorporating energy storage into existing markets.
· Presentations on energy storage projects in Michigan.
· The release of a recent study into the energy storage potential in Michigan.
· A discussion of barriers and policy recommendations.
The free event is open to the public and lunch will be provided.
